Culture of Corruption: Cunningham Pleads Guilty to Bribery, Fraud, Tax EvasionA.P. via the Washington Post:SAN DIEGO -- Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators. The eight-term Republican congressman who previously announced he's not running for re-election next year also resigned after his guilty plea. He is due back in court for sentencing in February, when he could receive up to ten years in prison. Daily Kos reminds us that Cunningham is just one of the many Republicans facing charges or being investigated. Question is, with all their problems, who's running the country? Update: Josh Marshall provides link to Cunningham's public mea culpa. +Save/Share | | |
