The Sliming Has Begun

That the Republicans have started sliming their opponents shouldn't be news to anyone.

Yes, they apologized, but did they issue a follow-up e-mail to their constituents explaining that their operative intentionally slimed the Democratic nominee by implying that he and his wife were gay?

And even if they did issue a retraction, it's difficult to unring that bell and they know it. They know that what sticks in people's minds isn't the retraction but the original claim, no matter how untrue.

The question is, what have the Democrats done to aggressively counter dirty attacks? Any Democratic candidate worth his weight in votes should know this is coming; being caught with their pants down yet again is dumb politics.

Just ask John Kerry.
