DeLay DeniedScalia quickly denied via e-mail the Republican Party lawyers request for a stay on the Appellate Court's decision that DeLay remain on the Texas ballot. Now DeLay has no choice but to run after insisting he's no longer a Texan and while still being investigated for corruption. Roll Call (h/t: Political Wire) further notes it'll be tough to convince Texans to vote for him given that he can resign the day after he wins (a big if that now looks iffier) and force a special election for his replacement. Question is, will the Texas Republican Party throw their support behind him now that they don't have a choice? It'll be interesting to see how they'll embrace his shenanigans and defend it during the campaign; great fodder for DeLay's opponent Nick Lampson, for sure. Incidentally, Nick Lampson is no slouch.
