"I'm Barack Obama"Obama's first general election ad:I like it. It's an effective introductory getting-to-know-me ad, for people who still don't know much about his background and are targets of the "he's effete/elitist/unpatriotic" nonsense that Republicans lamely employ every election season against any running Democratic Presidential candidate. Matthew Yglesias calls it "hilariously unsubtle". Huh? Excuse me, but subtlety doesn't win against whisper campaigns and chain e-mails, much less general elections for POTUS. Like Chris Cillizza said: This ad's message is simple: Barack Obama is just like you. He knows what it's like to start with little and work your way up, he loves his country, he loves his family. It's a brilliant strategy not only for this reason but also because, as Daily Kos pointed out, the ad will run in 18 battleground states, including Georgia where Obama and McCain are now virtually tied. This means Obama is on the offensive, not only in defining himself, but also in forcing John McCain to spend money on states McCain used to consider safe.
