Kerry ConcedesI watched John Kerry's concession speech with a heavy heart.Fear has won the day. How else to explain the triumph of an Administration whose appalling legacy is undeniable? Those who fear people's right to choose whom to marry voted for those who believe some citizens are more equal than others. Those who fear a woman's right to choose voted for those who believe it should be a crime. Those who fear for their jobs voted for those who believe more should be given to the wealthy. Those who fear foreign threats voted for those who believe security is total hegemony. Yet it is abundantly clear that a president who promised to be a uniter, not a divider is standing on the spoils of a divided country. Those who desire theocratic authoritarianism will have to contend with the rest of us who believe that reason, equality and fairness should prevail. My fellow liberals, fellow Americans, it is not over. It is never over. Our cause is just. I still stand proudly with you, with the millions of us who believe that to fight for the common good regardless of race, gender, age, status or religion is a worthy cause and ultimately, what our great nation is about. +Save/Share | | |
