In HomageIn honor of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, two former Cornell University entomologists named three of the 65 newly discovered species of the slime-mold beetle as Agathidium bushi, Agathidium cheneyi and Agathidium rumsfeldi, respectively.Quentin Wheeler, one of the entomologists, said the decision to name the slime-mold inhabitants as such didn't have anything to do with physical features. Rather it was because they "admire these leaders as fellow citizens who have the courage of their convictions and are willing to do the very difficult and unpopular work of living up to principles of freedom and democracy rather than accepting the expedient or popular". In that spirit, may I suggest Agathidium condoleezi, Agathidium gonzalesi and Agathidium wolfowitzi? +Save/Share | | |
