Poll: Bush Rated Negatively by Most Americans

The reverse bounce back continues:

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush's approval ratings have declined slightly with a rising majority saying the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a new poll.

The Wall Street Journal poll said the president received a 58 percent "negative" rating, up from 56 percent last month. With 40 percent of US voters giving Bush a "positive" rating, down from 43 percent in January.

The paper wrote that the survey showed Bush had failed to make headway with the American public despite his State of the Union speech delivered on January 31, which past leaders have used to rally support.

"Any benefit President Bush may have gained from his State of the Union speech didn't last long enough to be measured in the latest poll," the paper wrote.
