Thanksgiving Pork

I've been quiet the past few weeks but not for long. Still enjoying my break, but I'll be responding to all your comments and visiting your journals. I will be back to regular programming Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, as you sit down to a holiday dinner with your loved ones, here's some Thanksgiving pork courtesy of the Republican-controlled Congress via the $388 billion omnibus spending bill. Some of the items included:

1. $1 million for a Wild America shrimp program [or the "No Shrimp Left Behind" Act].

2. $443,000 to develop salmon as baby food in Alaska [or the "Yucky Baby Food" Act].

3. $50,000 to control wild hogs in Missouri [or the "Hogs Gone Wild" Act].
The bill doesn't identify who proposed each item or why, items which were heavily promoted by lobbyists working for special interests.

In case you're wondering, George Bush is expected to approve the bill, since he hasn't seen a spending bill he didn't like.

Happy Thanksgiving.
