Fool Me Once

Tom Tomorrow got it right.

Make no mistake, George W. Bush doesn't want to "reform" Social Security, he wants to kill it. I will be writing more about the issue in future entries. We have to be armed with information; this will be a long, ugly fight.

We must close ranks to repeal Mr. Bush's attempts at Social Security privatization. A good place to start is Joshua Micah Marshall's Fainthearted Faction and Conscience Caucus.

As he defines them, "[t]he 'Fainthearted Faction' designates those Democrats who either favor President Bush's private-accounts-based Social Security phase-out plan or, in far more cases, appear open to voting for it. In so many words, the Faction includes all those Democrats who the president has some hope of getting on his side. The 'Conscience Caucus', meanwhile, is the parallel group on the other side: those Republicans who either oppose the president's plan or appear open to doing so."

Where do your representatives stand on the issue? Find out and make sure they know you don't want them destroying your future retirement.
