Down and DirtyBecause AARP is campaigning against privatization, a right-wing group called USA Next hired the brains behind the Swift Boat anti-Kerry ads to create a smear campaign against the association. Below is the ad they ran on the American Spectator web site: So they're calling AARP -- and by extension its 35 million members from the Greatest Generation -- anti-military and gay. Now how smart is it to smear the very people whose support you need? Of course the ad has nothing to do with privatization. It was a blatant attempt to exploit ignorance and bigotry, a desperate effort to distract us from the fact that privatization is a terrible idea that does nothing to strenghten Social Security. They must really think we're all stupid, if they believe that insulting propaganda like this would convince an already skeptical public to favor privatization. Coming up: Who is USA Next? +Save/Share | | |
