Losing Proposition

So how did George W. Bush fare with his press conference last week?

Worst ratings ever.

The public didn't buy the Robin Hood act and for good reason. Under "progressive price indexing", aka the Pozen plan, he proposed benefit cuts for those who are "better off".
Except "better off" is anyone who earns over $20,000.

His 60-day, 60 stop privatization roadshow didn't help, either. With humiliating poll numbers like this, you would think Mr. Bush would pack it up and save taxpayers some money.
Instead, he's extending the roadshow, insisting "he's just getting started".

Why? Perhaps John Snow will give us a clue:

U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Wednesday the Bush administration was making progress in ratcheting down U.S. budget deficits, but linked it to action on an overhaul of the Social Security system.
In short, the deficit caused by wanton spending and tax cuts for the rich will be paid for by slashing Social Security benefits.

The working class gets the shaft again.
