Gephardt: I Was Wrong on IraqFormer Democratic Senator Dick Gephardt finally admits he was wrong on Iraq.Of course he's not risking much; Gephardt's dismal performance in last year's Democratic primaries put an end to his presidential ambitions. But it's good to finally hear a Democrat say that the war itself, and not just its execution, was a mistake, especially from someone who co-authored the Iraq Resolution which authorized Bush to wage war. Hopefully, Gephardt would do two things. First, that he would trumpet his change of heart as loudly and visibly as he did when he joined Bush at the Rose Garden to announce the approval of the Resolution. Doing so might encourage other Democrats to grow a spine and denounce this war. Second, that he would admit this to Cindy Sheehan and other Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families who have lost their sons and daughters. It wouldn't bring their loved ones back, but would go a long way in honoring these families whose sacrifice is being tarnished by those who continue to apologize for and defend this unjustified war. +Save/Share | | |
