Open Season on FitzgeraldIt’s officially open season on the Fitz:"He's a vile, detestable, moralistic person with no heart and no conscience who believes he's been tapped by God to do very important things," one White House ally said, referring to special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald.I could’ve sworn that statement describes someone else, but I digress. Excuse the man if he’s not in the mood for handholding, but he’s got a job to do. Too bad for the White House that Fitzgerald – who has gone after Al Qaeda and the Gambino crime family --happens to be a tough and aggressive prosecutor incorruptible by politics. Fitzgerald has a stellar reputation. Both his colleagues and adversaries say so. The mere fact that no leaks are coming from his office proves Fitzgerald runs a quality operation. Plus how can that statement be reconciled with Bush saying “the special prosecutor is conducting a very serious investigation. He's doing it in a very dignified way, by the way, and we'll see what he says"? If this is how the Republican spin machine plans to stem the tide that is the Plame investigation, they should try again, because it's so petty and whiny it’s embarrassing. +Save/Share | | |
