Woodward: Cheney in '08

He noted that Republicans have a long track record of nominating "old war horses."

Given that, and depending on how things in Iraq proceed, "You're going to think I'm crazy, but you heard it here first. I think they could nominate Dick Cheney."

Woodward isn't alone in thinking this; Political Wire notes a few conservatives are trying to get a buzz going, even though Cheney has had several bypass operations and is on record that he's not interested in running.

Then again, he's said that before. He was part of the team seaching for Dubya's running mate in 2000 and ended up being the nominee himself.

Of course, after the shooting incident which further highlighted Cheney's arrogance, penchant for secrecy and refusal to own up to anything unless pressured, Republicans have their work cut out for them in the image rehabilitation department.
