The Trouble with McCain

In spite of his "I am a neocon" proclamations and wooing the likes of Jerry Fallwell, the Republican base still isn't too hot on John McCain.

NEW YORK A new Gallup poll asking Americans theirs views of 25 leading candidates for president in 2008 found that one of the Republican frontrunners, Sen. John McCain, is judged "unacceptable" by 41% of those in his own party.

My guess is he will continue pandering to the base until he wins his party's primary, then shift to the center to hammer his so-called maverick rep. This shape shifting should be a giveaway to any Democratic opponent smart enough to use it.
