FDIC Chairman Appointed Gulf Coast CoordinatorFrom the Washington Post, another cronylicious appointment:Donald E. Powell, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and a major Texas backer of President Bush, was named federal coordinator of long-term hurricane recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced yesterday.Translation: a Bush money machine with no disaster-recovery experience will be in charge of "coordinating" juicy rebuilding contracts, possibly redirecting them towards Bush-friendly entities while adding another bureaucratic layer to an already ineffective federal response. Katrina? What Katrina? It's business as usual for Dubya. +Save/Share | | |
