Rumsfeld: Gitmo Hunger Strikers on a "Diet"

When Rumsfeld opens his mouth, how come he always puts his foot in it? From the Seattle Times, via Raw Story:

Asked about the motivation of the hunger strikers, Rumsfeld said, "Well, I suppose that what they're trying to do is to capture press attention, obviously, and they've succeeded."

He added, "There are a number of people who go on a diet where they don't eat for a period and then go off of it at some point. And then they rotate and other people do that."

I suppose this cavalier attitude towards detainees isn't surprising from a man with cavalier attitudes about our own soldiers ("As you know, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time...").
